25 de Abril Bridge: overnight lane closures until 25 September
Resurfacing works are restricting road traffic on Lisbon’s 25 de Abril Bridge overnight from 21 to 25 September. The bridge remains open, but the first two nights have the heaviest lane reductions.

What is changing
Lusoponte, the concessionaire for the 25 de Abril Bridge, says routine resurfacing is being carried out on the bridge deck between 21 and 25 September 2026. The works run only at night, from 22:00 until 06:00, and will create temporary restrictions for road traffic.
When the restrictions are heaviest
The most significant restriction is scheduled for the nights of 21 and 22 September, when two lanes in each direction need to be closed at the same time. Lusoponte says the bridge will remain open throughout the intervention, so this is not a full bridge closure. For the remaining work period through 25 September, the official notice confirms overnight restrictions but does not specify the same two-lane closure pattern for every night.
Who should plan extra time
Anyone driving between Lisbon and Almada during the overnight works should expect reduced capacity. The timing is especially relevant for late arrivals, early-morning airport journeys that begin south of the Tagus, overnight workers, and travellers returning to accommodation on the south bank. If your trip can avoid the 22:00–06:00 window, that removes the main work-period risk; if it cannot, allow a buffer rather than planning a tight connection.

Conditions can change quickly once lane closures are put in place. Lusoponte provides live traffic information for both the 25 de Abril and Vasco da Gama bridges on its website. Check the live situation shortly before departure rather than assuming an alternative crossing will automatically be quicker.
What is not changing
The official notice does not announce a closure of the bridge itself. It describes temporary road-traffic restrictions while resurfacing is completed. The work is part of Lusoponte’s routine maintenance programme, and the company recommends planning journeys in advance.
