4 days in Lisbon: city plus two day trips
The unrushed version — historic centre, Belém, Sintra and Cascais, each with room to breathe.
Four days is where Lisbon stops feeling rushed at any point — the same core three days as our 3-day itinerary, plus a genuine fourth day for the coast or a second day trip, without needing to compress anything else to make room for it.
Day 1: Historic centre & Alfama
- Morning: Alfama and São Jorge Castle, early.
- Afternoon: Miradouros down into Baixa, then Chiado and Bairro Alto.
- Evening: Fado — see our fado guide.
Day 2: Belém & LX Factory
- Morning: Jerónimos Monastery then Belém Tower.
- Afternoon: LX Factory.
- Evening: Sunset miradouro, dinner in Príncipe Real.
Day 3: Sintra day trip

Day 4: Cascais & the coast
- Full day: Train to Cascais — old town, marina, and a beach afternoon at Praia da Rainha or a short hop to Praia do Guincho for something wilder.
- Alternative: Swap this day for Óbidos if walled medieval towns interest you more than a beach day, or a second, slower day inside Lisbon itself — a neighbourhood you rushed on day one, or the Gulbenkian and other museums this itinerary doesn't otherwise cover.
Two day trips, two different stations
Sintra departs from Rossio station and Cascais from Cais do Sodré — different lines, so there's no way to combine them into a single day even if you wanted to. Keeping them on separate days, as above, is the only realistic approach.

- Yes — they're the natural pairing for a 4-day trip, departing from different stations so each gets its own full day.
- Is 4 days too long for Lisbon?
- Not if you include at least one day trip — the city centre alone can feel thoroughly covered in 2–3 days, but Sintra and the coast comfortably absorb the extra time.
